10 things to know before buying a water filtration system.
By Peter Wakem

- Choose a company that has financial strength, longevity, a large inventory, and a loyal customer base.
- Visit the company's location before purchasing a system to form an opinion of the type of company you are buying from.
- Inquire about the company's installation department, service department and replacement parts department. Discuss the availability of maintenance parts.
- Verify that the company has a wide selection of products for every water treatment need.
- Dismiss purchasing by price alone. Differences are common due to size, quality and type. Explain your needs, learn your options, and ask questions about how the system works, the required maintenance and the warranty.
- Confirm that all future water testing needs and equipment consultations are easily accessible and are offered at no charge.
- Substantiate that the proposed equipment is certified by the Water Quality Association, and is proposed by a full time water professional.
- Be wary of "in-home, persistent, high commissioned salespeople" presenting a lengthy demonstration. They commonly use dishonest tactics to close any sale they can.
- Avoid multi-level marketing sales people. Purchasing soap and cosmetics does not compare to investing in water treatment equipment for the protection of your family's health.
- Understand that only properly sized and installed water treatment equipment will give your family the standard of water you require, whether the source is from a municipal supply or a well system.
